ABC News takes us through Quentin Tarantino’s unique creation and publication of Django.
The 2012 film Django was written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, and Leonardo DiCaprio. This film was Quentin’s first attempt at creating a full on western and wow, he did it right.
The story follows a freed slave named Django on a mission to find his wife and gain her freedom. Along the way he meets Christoph waltz’s character and Christoph gives a phenomenal performance as the German bounty hunter. Later they end up at the house of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character who gives us one of the best and most disturbing scenes of the film. While his character is telling the difference that he believes is between slaves and white people he slams a glass cup on the table cutting the actors hand by accident and continues acting this dramatic scene. Quentin’s talent shines brightest through his ability to get the best out of actors, Jamie Foxx gives a performance that I did not know he was capable of. Not only proving to be a great physical actor but fantastic in the dramatic scenes as well. Christoph Waltz ones again shows that he can only be an impactful actor when under the guidance of Quentin’s leadership.
While this film deals with the harsh realities of slavery and difficult topics it is still done in Quentin’s natural directing style with the slightly campy camera work and editing and the over the top violence. However, it is handled so well that it only enhances the story and where the film is going.
